Apr 27, 2020  Mirror for Samsung TV is probably the most popular program when it comes to connecting your Mac to Samsung TV. It is developed by AirBeam, a company dedicated to producing software for different devices. This allows you to duplicate your Mac screen to a television on a real-time basis.

“Last week we released the iOS app for Samsung TV”, says Jan van Ottele, co-founder and CEO. “Today, I am pleased to announce that our development team has finalized the LG TV version of the Mirror app for iPhone and iPad. There are numerous apps in the App Store that you can use to send photos and videos to LG TVs, but this is the only app that will allow you to mirror exactly what is on the screen of your iPhone or iPad to TV.”

I noted a few limitations last time, and these apply equally to the LG version.

There are a few things to note. First, there is between one and three seconds of latency, so it’s obviously not suitable for gaming. Second, it won’t work for DRM-enabled apps, like Netflix. Finally, you don’t get any audio when mirroring from Safari.

Put the last couple of issues together, and you’re probably not going to be using it to watch movies, which is a shame, but you can view your own photos and video, as well as use it for most other apps.

You also need an iOS device with enough processing power, which is an iPhone 6s or later, and any iPad Pro or 5th generation iPad.

The app is a $4.99 purchase from the App Store, the same as the Samsung version. A version for the Mac costs $9.99. The video below shows how to use it.

After purchasing the premium version through an In App Purchase, screen mirroring will not stop after 5 minutes.Limitations and known issues:DRMSome apps block Screen Mirroring. This means that application developers can choose themselves if they want to block Screen Mirroring. For instance, Netflix, Disney and AppleTV+ have decided to block this.There is a simple test that you can do to see if the app that you want to mirror has blocked Screen Mirroring:Open that particular app and slide up Control Center on your iPhone/iPad. Then, click on Screen Recording and start recording the screen to your Camera Roll.

Watch the app that you want to mirror and at some point stop the screen recording. Then go to your Photos app and watch the video that was recorded.

If the recorded video shows the app you want to mirror, it works fine. If the video is empty, then the app you want to mirror does not allow Screen Mirroring.About Screen Recording and PrivacyEven though there are notifications about Screen Recording, we don't record your screen into files and we don't send any content to a server. We only temporarily store data in memory, before it is streamed to TV.
