He's asking $5500.seems cheap. How stout are these tractors and how's parts availability?RGMartinTractor GuruJoined: 14 Jan 2011Posts: 3520Posted: Thu Nov 12, 2015 5:51 pm Post subject: Re: Case 1394Good utility tractors. Basically an updated 995 David Brown with a little more power via a turbo.Normal wear parts are easy to come. Stuff like the fiberglass grilles are unavailable(I know someone working on a mold for them though).

The dash parts are hard to come by also(light switches, gauge clusters), but are easily farmer engineered. What color is it?Was Case's best seller for most of its production run. There was a large.GOV contract for these, used by Air Force, Army, NASA etc(usually green or yellow). Most have been surplussed out of service and are usually a great value.Casey in KyLong Time UserJoined: 10 Jun 2000Posts: 895Location: Paintsville, kyPosted: Thu Nov 12, 2015 6:07 pm Post subject: Re: Case 1394Here's a pic.Harry in KyRegularJoined: 08 Jan 2012Posts: 298Posted: Thu Nov 12, 2015 6:47 pm Post subject: Re: Case 1394That sounds like a pretty good price if it's a synchromesh trans. If it's a Hydra Shift, you better check the function of it pretty closely.

That can be a money pit. There may not have been too many of them sold, but they were offered.RGMartinTractor GuruJoined: 14 Jan 2011Posts: 3520Posted: Thu Nov 12, 2015 7:36 pm Post subject: Re: Case 1394Looks nice. Looks to be a syncro. Check for sloppiness in the front axle from the loader. Loaders are hard on front axles. The 1394s had a reinforced 990 axle under them(angle irons welded under a regular 990 axle).

Better than a 990 axle, but not nearly as heavy as a 1210 or 14 series axle.MJ in the UKLong Time UserJoined: 13 Jan 2013Posts: 830Location: NEWARK UKPosted: Fri Nov 13, 2015 1:49 am Post subject: Re: Case 1394Noticed you comment on the front axle. Local farmer still farms with two of these tractors and I fitted a 1200 front axle on the one with the loader on. I've been trying to read up on them and I can't seem to find much. I have read a few places that the 995's brakes were less than desirable. Might have been ok to start with, but we're pretty costly to repair. Pull the wheel, pull the final drive and there they are. The 1394 shoes are wider than the 995 ones.I have only ever done one, and that was because a seal failed and got oil on them.Clutch is dry, Only issue is adjustment requires an understanding of how the clutch works, or a book.Casey in KyLong Time UserJoined: 10 Jun 2000Posts: 895Location: Paintsville, kyPosted: Fri Nov 13, 2015 9:42 am Post subject: Re: Case 1394Just found out that the range selector does not work. Apparently it's stuck in low range. He said it had 3 speeds plus reverse and then 4 ranges. Said it just quit this morning and he thought it acted like maybe a pin came out of the linkage somewhere.

Also he said the front bucket was beat up pretty bad. $5000 was the least he'd take. Seems high for a tractor with trans trouble.RGMartinTractor GuruJoined: 14 Jan 2011Posts: 3520Posted: Fri Nov 13, 2015 10:59 am Post subject: Re: Case 1394There is a roll pin that can brake on the linkage seen many happen when someone tries to force a shift. $2, 10 minute fix, or could be something more sinister that requires a full transmission rebuild. Too much money if you don't know.Casey in KyLong Time UserJoined: 10 Jun 2000Posts: 895Location: Paintsville, kyPosted: Fri Nov 13, 2015 12:31 pm Post subject: Re: Case 1394How hard is to get to that roll pin? Couple minutes max.Casey in KyLong Time UserJoined: 10 Jun 2000Posts: 895Location: Paintsville, kyPosted: Fri Nov 13, 2015 2:24 pm Post subject: Re: Case 1394Appreciate it all the help guys.
